Visa & application process

Phase 1: Admission from Bangladesh

  • Shortlist universities and departments, giving priority to English- or Portuguese-taught programs.
  • Apply to the best-fit university with a strong motivation letter, CV, and apostilled certificates and transcripts.
  • Secure your acceptance letter from the university.
  • Pay registration and tuition fees and keep every receipt for your visa file.

Phase 2: Visa application through India

  • Book your VFS appointment in New Delhi for the D4 student visa.
  • Apply for an Indian double-entry visa because you may need to enter India and return to Bangladesh while your passport is handled.
  • Fly to India and attest your educational documents and Police Clearance Certificate at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
  • Submit your application with the visa form, acceptance letter, tuition receipts, financial documents, accommodation proof, travel insurance, PCC, and attested certificates.
  • Attend the embassy interview and then return to Bangladesh.

Phase 3: Visa decision and stamping

  • Wait for the embassy decision on your D4 national visa.
  • Submit your passport to VFS Bangladesh for visa stamping if your visa is approved.
  • Collect your passport with the visa from VFS Bangladesh.
  • Fly to Portugal when your travel window opens.

Phase 4: After arrival in Portugal

  • Get your NIF, Health User ID, and NISS from the relevant Portuguese offices.
  • Wait for your AIMA appointment email and complete your residence card application.
  • Attend the appointment, provide your biometrics, and wait for the card to arrive by mail.
